Amazon Increases Prime Membership Fee By $20

The eCommerce giant increased price of Amazon Prime which was fixed since 9 years. Amazon will be offering the shipping and video-streaming service which is beginning on 17th April, will cost $99 a year. It means that it has been increased by $20 from the original $79 price. Amazon Student Prime will be also increased by $10 to an annual fee of $49.

Those whose renewals come up before April 17 will still pay the original $79 fee. The price will change for renewals or new accounts as of April 17.

As per Amazon statement it was seen that “Even as fuel and transportation costs have increased,the price of Prime has remained the same for nine years. Since 2005, the number of items eligible for unlimited free two-day shipping has grown from one million to over 20 million. We also added unlimited access to over 40,000 movies and TV episodes with Prime Instant Video and a selection of over 500,000 books to borrow from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.”

In 2007, Amazon Prime was launched in Japan, the United Kingdom and Germany. Later on in 2008 it was introduced in France and respectively released in Italy in 2011 and in Canada in 2013.

The best part is that Amazon is offering 30 days trial. Users can go for trial for the period.
