Posted By: Arin Dey - July 28, 2015

When you have to deal with multiple copies of the same file in the Drive, apart from creating confusion, the files also take up a certain amount of valuable storage space in your Drive. Don't you think it would be easier if you could simply replace an existing file in your Google Drive with the new version instead of uploading it as a separate file? Yes, you can do it easily by following a few steps given below.

How to replace files in google drive:

1. Open Google Drive and choose any file that you would like to update. File format supports like PDF, text files, images or even videos.

2. Select “Manage versions” from the menu by right clicking on the file and then select the “Upload new version” button to upload the updated file to your Google Drive.

How to Update and Replace Existing Files in Google Drive

3. And you are done. The file name and the file’s URL will not change and all the old links that have been shared earlier will now automatically point to the new version of your file.

You can use the same technique to replace a file in one format with another format. In case you have a jpg file in the Drive that you would want to replace with a png of smaller file size, then it's the same “Manage versions” option that will work. The best part here is that you can have the same link as you had previously.

Google Releases Android M : Features & Updates

Posted By: Arin Dey - June 08, 2015
Google recently launched Android M developer preview at Google I/O 2015 in San Francisco. At the conference, Google senior VP of Products Sundar Pichai said the company had "gone back to basics" with this new version of Android. While Android Lollipop introduced a new visual aesthetic, Android M brings some much-needed stability and usability improvements which might not be as eye-catching, but may prove to be significant additions for a while to come.

Google Releases Android M : Features & Updates

Recently at I/O, Google VP of Engineering David Burke outlined various Android M features and updates which are being rolled out in near future. Here is how it will be :

Android M Logo By Google

App permissions

First up, app permissions. As had previously been speculated, app permissions have been overhauled in Android M, with users now being able to choose to accept or deny individual permissions as they see fit. Permissions have also been simplified.
6. Power and charging

Android M makes use of a new function known as Doze to improve device standby time. By using motion detectors, Android will recognize when devices haven’t been interacted with for a while, such as when a person is asleep or a device has been left on a table, to reduce background processes.

Fingerprint support

Google will "standardize support" for fingerprint scanners on phones running Android M. The new functionality will allow fingerprint scanners to be used not only to unlock phones, but to make purchases shopping in real-life or within Play Store apps.

Web experience

Google has been exploring trends in the way web content is consumed to provide a better user-experience when interacting with websites and apps. "Chrome Custom Tabs is a new feature that gives developers a way to harness all of Chrome's capabilities, while still keeping control of the look and feel of the experience," said Burke.

App links

"When a user selects a weblink from somewhere, Android doesn't know whether to show it in a web-browser, or some other app that claims support for the link," this was the problem facing the Google developers before Android M.

Mobile payments

Android Pay is Google's new mobile payments system designed to make the checkout process easier and faster. Google is aiming to provide "simplicity, security, and choice," with Android Pay, allowing you to use your existing credit cards to pay for products in more than 700,000 stores in the US.

Power and charging

Android M makes use of a new function known as Doze to improve device standby time. By using motion detectors, Android will recognize when devices haven’t been interacted with for a while, such as when a person is asleep or a device has been left on a table, to reduce background processes.

Android M also supports USB Type-C which provides faster charging, and lets users charge other devices with their phone.

Auto Backup and Restore for Apps

Possibly the most interesting aspect of Android M not discussed in Google’s I/O keynote speech was Android Auto Backup and Restore for Apps. This feature will be used in conjunction with Google Drive to automatically backup app data and settings with a file size of 25 MB or less.

Android M RAM manager

Google has introduced a new RAM manager to Android M with the aim of providing users with more accurate and comprehensible information regarding the maximum and average RAM usage of apps.

The menu can be found in Settings > Apps > Options (three dots button) > Advanced > Memory. Though it's a little hard to navigate to, the page offers a far clearer insight into app demands, and the overall effect they will have on your device.

Adoptable Storage Devices

Though Google has in the past tried to step away from external storage use. This is the reason why none of its Nexus devices contain a microSD card slot. It appears that Android M is striking a compromise.

Moving to Dark Theme

Buried within the Android M settings is a "Dark theme" option which transforms the menu background to a dark grey color rather than the normal pale shade. Currently this only affects the settings menu, not the app drawer, and its function is purely cosmetic. Still, it looks nice on our Nexus 6 and we hope it gets developed further.

Redesigned app drawer

One of the most immediately noticeable visual changes to Android M is the new app drawer. This now scrolls vertically instead of horizontally, and is held against a white background, rather than a muted shade of your homepage wallpaper. Across the top of the menu you will see your four most recently used apps, and down the left-hand side are the letters of the alphabet.

Now, lets look at the Google apps improvements :

Google Now

Google Now has been improved upon once again in Android M. Focusing on three key ares: being aware of different contexts, providing answers and helping you take action, Google Now is now smarter than ever.

Google Chrome

Chrome is also leaner and faster than ever before. Initially revamped with Android One devices in mind, where stable and speedy internet connections are not always possible, Chrome's new optimizations are set to arrive for everyone.

Google Photos

As expected, Google pulled the wraps off its new Google Photos service. Previously a part of Google+, Google Photos is now standalone photo and video storage and sharing service that provides unlimited free storage for up to 16 MP photos and 1080p video. That is seriously impressive.

What about Android M release date?

Google has made this Android M Developer Preview available for Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player as of now, and the final version is due to launch in Q3, 2015.

Let's see how the Android M floats over the android device market and impacts on device performance, reliability, stability and usability improvements.

Posted By: Arin Dey - June 08, 2015
Facebook is opening a new artificial intelligence (AI) lab in France. After its two labs within country, this would be the third AI lab to be opened by the company outside home country. The first two centers are located in the U.S., while the third will be in Paris.

Facebook Paris team will be put to work on long-term research projects in image recognition, natural language processing and speech recognition as well as the types of physical and logical infrastructure necessary to run such AI systems.

Facebook Launches New AI Research Lab in France

“It’s our hope that this research will ultimately help us make services like News Feed, photos and search even better and enable an entirely new set of ways to connect and share,” Facebook said in a blog post.

“Our work in AI research is still relatively early. But we’ve built a terrific team and have already made some encouraging progress, and we’re excited to see where this work takes us and what it will allow us to build for the people we serve.”

Paris was chosen as the location for the new facility because France has some of the best researchers in the world. The company said it planned to invest in the AI research community both in France and across the European Union.

So far, Facebook has collaborated with INRIA, a leading research institute in Paris, on its AI research.

Facebook said it believes such openness to working with others “ultimately spurs more innovation, encourages collaboration and mutual review, and helps us all move faster.

New Google Photos App : Leaked Images

Posted By: Arin Dey - May 26, 2015
Google is launching an amazing photo app very soon. While using this photos app, users will be greeted with the awesome pinwheel animation similar shape what we see in Google Photos option. Splash screens aren't traditionally used on Android because they aren't strictly necessary, but Google has been having a lot of fun with icon motion lately, which may explain its presence. Next, of course, is the first-run experience. As with most Google apps these days, Photos explains itself up front in a series of friendly, animated illustrations. The user can then fiddle with some backup settings before being ushered to a few more illustrations.

New Google Photos App : Leaked Images

Google’s senior vice president for products, Sundar Pichai, was quoted by Venture Beat as saying the company would be looking at ways to improve user experience when it comes to photographs.

“Photos are a big use case,” Pichai said. “So we are going to say this is the stream now.”

Most of the app's functionality is given away in the above screens. This app will let users search for specific people, animals, or objects, back up photos automatically, and take care of general photo management. Addition to all of these this app gets a revised interface with several "views" to choose from. Users can see their photos sorted by day or month, or a "comfortable view" which tiles photos by day in a staggered grid sort of like Google+ photo albums on the web do now.

Lets see how it appears once it is live.

How To Use #Hashtags - Do's And Don'ts

Posted By: Arin Dey - April 24, 2015
Usage of #hashtags has been increased with time and now people are very much efficient in using those tags while in Twitter, Facebook, Google+ or any other supported hashtags platforms. The hashtag always increases the chances of your post being discovered when someone uses those terms in a search. Using the hashtags are important if you want your posts to be found. Suppose you want to post some weekend party pics over social media and want to give a hashtag to them. Use #weekend #party to those pics.

How To Use #Hashtags - Do's And Don'ts

Lets look at the below points which states what are the Do's and Don'ts of using #hashtags:

Don'ts #hashtag :

1. Do Not Overuse Hashtags :

A lot of people are posting messages or posts that were nothing but a collection of hashtags. A big NO for this practice.Never use more than two or three hashtags per message or post. If you use so many hashtags then it may give people the impression that you are a spammer. You have to specify the message type using it rather than message content.

2. Do Not Use Spaces  :

Avoid spaces in the words or phrase you want included in the hashtag. Never make your hashtag to look like this: #new product. Here you have to remove the space out – #newpeoduct. You may use upper case letters to look it separate words - #NewProduct

3. Do Not Make Longer hashtags :

Suppose, you want to put a hashtags for your post on popular app for iphone and you are using as #popularappsforiphoneusers. As you can see this is just a big confusing hashtag which reveals the content itself. Never use more than two or three words for your hashtag. Use #iPhoneApps to be very specific. This small hashtag will be easy to understand and found quickly.

4. Do not Use Special Characters :

Using special characters will make your hashtags ineffective. Any hastag is tarted with # symbol so always avoid using any other special character in it. You can use numbers within your hashtag.

5. Do Not Use Irrelevant Hashtags :

A lot of people use irrelevant hashtags in sake of using forced hashtags, which doesn't mean anything and doesn't even explain your message. Always make sure your hashtag is related to your posted content. If you continually post hashtags that are not relevant to your content, you will lose your readers and followers.

Do's #hashtag :

6. Do Create Your Own Hashtags :

Always create a relevant hashtag that has not yet been used to promote an event or explains your post. Include the hashtag in all your posts related to this event or post.

7. Do Test Your Hashtags :

Once you have created a hashtag, do a search for it to see if it is already in use. Make sure that it shouldn't already be in use for an entirely different topic. It could be a misleading and embarrassing situation if you used a hashtag that was already in use for something else or some demeaning phrases.

8. Do Use Hashtags in All Social Media :

Hashtags were introduced on Twitter but they are now effectively used on most social media sites. You can do a research to see the most effective way to use them for each particular social networking site. Each social networking site have different guidelines for how to use #hashtags properly effectively.

9. Do Use Unique Hashtags :

Always use hashtags that are easy to remember and unique. Overall it should develop some interest in readers. You can add a little humor or quirkiness that will make the difference between a good hashtag and a great hashtag. If you keep your hashtags interesting then the chances of people retweeting or sharing them will be more.

10. Do Be Specific With Your Hashtags :

By using few keywords, you can narrow down your search result with using easily discoverable hashtags. Be very very specific as opposed to a generic hashtag. Hashtags that are too generic will not generate many results. Suppose you want to sell your software product which is for real time traffic optimizer, do not use the hashtag as #Optimization instead you use #RealTimeAnalyzer or #RealTimeOptimizer.

Facebook has launched a new video app called Riff. This feature is designed to let users create collaborative videos with their friends.

Facebook’s Product Manager Josh Miller announced on wednesday: “The potential pool of creative collaborators can grow exponentially from there, so a short video can become an inventive project between circles of friends you can share to Facebook or anywhere on the Internet.”

Watch How The Latest Facebook Video App 'Riff' Works

This app is quite simple to use. You can create a video and add some tags to it which your friends will be able to see and add more clips to it of their own. Once your friends have added clips, these will be seen by all their friends (friends of your friends) on facebook and they too can add videos to it giving it somewhat like a snowball effect. Each video can run upto 20 seconds and you will be able to fast forward it if it seems too lengthy. This feature does not allow you to like the videos or write any comments.

If any group of friends try to spoil your fun project then you can delete your clips and can report to the Company as well.

Riff is now available for both iOS and Android. The Company has also provided a sample showing how the feature works. You can watch it right here.
