Thumbs Up Year 2013 For App Store

Posted By: Poketors - January 09, 2014
Apple's widely popular The App Store was a big hit and earned good wealth for more than $10 billion for the entire year. This was a money-flooding year which gave Apple with customers downloading nearly 3 billion apps in December making the month the most successful in the App Store’s history ever.

Apple senior vice-president of Internet software and services Eddy Cue said in a press release expressed “We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store. The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”

The success of App Store’s is obviously good for developers. Apple’s developers have earned $15 billion from App Store sales in entire year.

Apple & Samsung Towards Patent Issue Settlement

Posted By: Poketors - December 31, 2013
Apple & Samsung are going towards to put an end to all the battleship by signing a royalties deal that would be good for both parties, the Korea Fair Trade Commission (FTC) revealed to Korea Times.

“As far as I know, the companies recently resumed working-level discussions toward the signing of a potential deal. They are in the process of narrowing differences over royalty payments.” a Korean FTC official told the Korea Times.

The lawyers for both companies agreed they would have a proposal for discussion by January. Koh, who said she was disappointed with the suggested timeline, agreed to the date proposed by the attorneys.

Apple is accusing Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus as well as other devices of violating four of its patents in the patent lawsuit set to kick off in March. It will examine software and user interface patent breaches, including the rights to the search technology integrated in the iPhone Siri voice feature. Apple’s success over Samsung may very well be the incentive Samsung needed to attempt talks again.

A California jury awarded Apple $1.05 billion last August after determining Samsung violated six of Apple’s iPhone patents. In March, federal district court judge Lucy Koh ruled that $450.5 million was incorrectly awarded by the jury and ordered the new trial. Samsung was still obligated to pay the remaining $600 million awarded by the jury, however. It appears Samsung has more to gain from a licensing deal than does Apple, an agreement would certainly save both sides astronomical legal fees.

As per Korea Times article, the parties remain “poles apart over the patent values that each has.” Samsung is hoping to ink an all-inclusive “cross-licensing” deal, permitting it to access all Apple’s design-related, some standard-essential and commercial patents. Apple, on the other hand, wants Samsung to pay more than $30 per device for the Smartphone maker’s patent violations — an amount Samsung deems to be “too much,” a Samsung official told the Times.

Lets watch out the space for this battle ground and who gets the lead. Share your comments.

Posted By: Poketors - September 28, 2013
Decided to try new iPhone 5S or iPhone 5C for the first time? Obviously most of the people want to give it a try. But what if you have an Android gadget? Changing platform has been always a big headache as you have already stored your data onto your Android phone and again you have to migrate all your data to your new phone. It sounds hectic but no worries. We will guide you all the way from start to finish step by step.
If you are an Android user and want to move your data from Android to your new iPhone you can follow the below mentioned steps :

Managing Email Accounts And Social Media Accounts

1. Google, Exchange, Yahoo!, Aol., Outlook.com etc.

A lot of cloud services are there for maintaining email accounts and social media sites which can store your contacts, photos, calendars, documents, posts etc.  These can be easily archived in your new phone. If you are worries about the cross-platform supported services such as Google, Exchange, or Yahoo!  then no issues at all. All of them are supported in iOS 7. It basically provide an option so that you have to put a minimal effort in importing all of your data from Android phone. So it makes your effort easy now as you just have to enter credentials for any of the supported services that can be found within the iOS 7 Settings menu, and simply select which data you want to pull in; mail, contacts, calendars or notes. Because these data are already stored in the cloud and you can access them on your new iPhone.

2. Social Media Sites : Facebook, Twitter, Google+ etc.

iOS 7 can pull down your contacts from most of the popular social media accounts. Nowadays people are relying on the Facebook and Twitter contacts. You can select Update Contacts from Settings menu to keep all your contacts up to date and readily available onto your iPhone.

Using Cloud Service Like Dropbox :

Dropbox is supported on both the platforms Android and iOS and it also provides the option to upload your images or any other data automatically  or you can upload your backed up data like documents, music, files etc to store on Dropbox cloud. If you are using Dropbox for Android App then you can easily sign in to the same Dropbox account via Dropbox For iOS App.

If you don't have the Dropbox account then here is the simplest way to backup your data from Android and access them from your new iPhone :

1. Download Dropbox for Android app from Google Play on your Android device
2. Launch it and sign in
3. Upload the files whatever you want from your Android device
4. Download Dropbox for iOS app from iTunes
5. Launch it and sign in with the same credentials
6. Download the already uploaded backup data

Click here for free download : Dropbox for iOS

Using Device to Device Transfer :

If you like to keep a  copy of your contacts on your computer, or just want to avoid the cloud syncing service, you can export your contacts from your Android phone as a .vcf file. Later on you can import that into Contacts at iCloud.com.

Lets start the process by following the below steps:

1. Launch the Contacts app.
2. Press Menu button.
3. Search for the Import/Export option and select it.
4. Select the option to export your contacts to storage.
5. Pull it from your phone to your computer or email it to yourself
6. Once the contacts transfer is over, you can upload it to iCloud.com.

Note : But always remember one thing that before doing any steps, take a backup so that if something goes wrong you can restore easily.

Using Android File Transfer :

If you are using a Windows PC, then transferring data from your Android device using your computer will be easy and simple. In case you have a Mac PC, then you can download the Android File Transfer app and use it. It will give you the option on your Mac to browse the files and folders on your Android device, and you can easily copy them to your Mac. But some files can only be imported to your iPhone via iTunes.

Google Apps On iOS :

You must be worried about the fact that you have already installed multiple apps on your Android gadgets and how do you get those apps on iOS. But in reality Apple Store also provides multiple useful apps like you get on Google Play. if you an Android user, then it is obvious that you have a Google account too. Google has made it simple by providing one login credential to access all their services from Gmail, Maps, Youtube, Google Drive, Hangouts, Google TV Remote, Chrome to Chromecast. So don't feel that leaving Google Android platform will narrow down your opportunities to access the Google apps. If you have a Google account then access it from Apple iPhone using various Google apps available on iTunes Apple Store.

Google provides some of the most used apps available on iOS and many of which have already been updated with official support for iOS 7. If your interaction and usage is more with Google services, stay tuned with Google's official iOS apps. Here are some of the most used Google apps available on iOS.

iOS 7 : Inspired By Android And Windows Phone

Posted By: Poketors - September 23, 2013
The new OS from Apple made it full of fundamental changes. If you have iPhone 4, iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 you mish have upgraded to iOS 7 and if not go for it now. Feature wise it is the best iOS version that Apple has ever introduced with some issues for battery life which can be saved by following some tweaks.

When we say iOS7 is inspired by Android and Windows Phone, then there should be some reason which made us to write this post. If you have an Android device or a Windows Phone then you should be aware of some features which is similar to iOS 7.

Apple used to have skeuomorphism design which helps in turning on the faux glass effect and with this they used real world symbols giving a 3D look. Once Microsoft made their logos and operating system apps look like 2D and very flat, Google introduced a flatter used interface afterwards and released Ice Cream Sandwich. In a similar way Apple also followed the same concept and they removed the skeuomorphism design  with all the decorations and moved to flatter and sleeker designs with apps.

Here are the iOS 7 features which resembles with Android And Windows Phone :

1. Control Center :

Similar to Android gadgets, iOS7 also introduced a easy approach where you can easily switch on or off Wi-Fi/data connection or change brightness by opening the notification shade by swiping down from top of the screen.

2.  Thumbnail View :

Thumbnail view was introduced by WebOS in 2009 and late on this feature was adopted by Google Android. Even Microsoft stepped into the same method implementation of multitasking in Windows Phone.  Apple also shows thumbnail view of open apps when multitasking in going on. It means it is similar to the Android where we find apps keep running at background.

3. Swipe On Lockscreen :

Like Android phone, now you can swipe at any area on iOS 7 device to unlock it. Earlier it used to be there but in a particular area.

4. App Updates :

If you want to change the setting for app update automatically, Android allows you to do that when phone is connected to internet. Apple has also added similar feature.

5. Dynamic Wallpaper :

You can select from multiple dynamic wallpapers of faux 3D. This is similar to Live Wallpaper in Android.

Even it is having multiple useful features, it lacks in some areas where Android is ahead. Here are the aspects where iOS 7 stays behind Android :

1. Fixed App Usage :

Unlike Android, you can't change the web browser in iOS 7 because it is fixed and you have to use Safari as Apple wants it to be used. On the other hand, Android has the option to choose the default browser from Chrome to Opera or any other.

2. Third Party Apps :

Apple is very much strict when it comes to device security and that is the reason iOS 7 has very few approved apps which can be used. On the other hand, Android has plenty of third party apps which can be used to share information.

3. Widgets :

In Android widgets are used and useful also. iOS 7 has no provision for widgets.

Apple has already made huge changes to iOS 7 and hopefully it will be able to fix the ongoing issues and will work on the pitfalls. Share your experience with iOS 7 and comment.

How To Stop iOS 7 Battery Consumption

Posted By: Poketors - September 22, 2013
iOS 7 offers some great features and with these features people are crazy about the latest OS from Apple. With some eye-catchy, excellent features, iOS has been in news for destroying battery life. iOS is supported on all older devices on or after iPhone 4 models but with some limitations.

If you want to make a stable and standard battery life of iOS device, you may try the below tweaks on settings.

1. Background App Refresh :

This feature is very useful when you don't use your device but it is a big reason to drain your battery. If you disable this feature then you can save your battery life but just a few apps would refrain from refreshing, that can be ignored.

2. Location-Based Service :

Through tracking of location is useful for us but running these services lead to a quick battery consumption. Apps like Maps would give you a well tracked location service, but we can stop using this whenever not required would help us to save battery life. Sometimes people authorize other apps like Facebook or Twitter to track your location unknowingly. At least we can totally disable this feature on these kind of apps. iOS 7 has system level option for location tracking with compass and GPS. If you disable tracking these services on few apps would give you boost in battery life.

3. AirDrop :

iOS 7 has a cool feature called AirDrop to iPhones. It is very new features only introduced for iPhone released versions after iPhone 4, has dropbox style look. You can turn it off whenever you son't use it. To access this, iOS 7 has new Control Center which can be seen by swiping upwards on home screen. Once you get the center, you can disable AirDrop.

4.  WiFi And Bluetooth :

From the same place where you disable AirDrop, you can find the options for WiFi and Bluetooth also. Disabling these features can also help you to save the battery life.

5. Reduce Motion :

iOS 7 introduced an interesting and fancy looking 3D parallax wallpaper effect. You might be little bit upset while disabling it but it would definitely save your battery life. From option in the Accessibility menu, you can disable this feature by toggling on the "Reduce Motion".

6. Dynamic Wallpaper :

Using dynamic wallpaper kills your battery life. Setting this feature might make your device look good but at the same time it drains your battery life.

Following the above features would definitely brings down the risk of battery consumption. Share your experience with iOS 7 with valuable comments and suggestions.

iPhone 5C Replaces iPhone 5, While iPhone 4S Remains

Posted By: Poketors - August 19, 2013
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo addressed to investors on Monday regarding iPhone market forecast that the long-rumored device from Apple, "iPhone 5C" could replace the iPhone 5 while Apple will continue sales for iPhone 4 series. Apple's iPhone 5C might not be a "low end" product after all as rumors are concerned. The logic behind that line of thinking was that Apple wanted its entire iPhone lineup to feature larger than 4-inch display screen with faster connector by removing the legacy 30-pin connector from the Apple's product lineup.

iPhone 5C Replaces iPhone 5, While iPhone 4S Remains
Image from Sonny Dickson
The "iPhone 5C" is expected to include largely the same components as Apple's currently available iPhone 5, including an A6 processor and a 4-inch Retina display. Apple is expected to cut costs and boost margins by featuring a plastic back for the device, which is likely to reduce the present rate, but can't expect very cheap price. It will be having fingerprint sensor beneath the home button as well as a dual LED flash component for better low-light photos. Apple has not confirmed anything yest regarding this and we have to wait until the event organized by Apple on 10th September regarding unveiling its new iPhone.

According to a report in DigiTimes, Apple’s 27-inch iMac is facing shipment delays as Apple’s main iMac panel supplier LG is having trouble with production.

The report quotes industry sources as saying that the LG Display has reportedly been facing full lamination issues while producing the panels, slowing down shipments of the 27-inch device to 100,000 units a month,

According to Apple’s online store, the 27-inch iMac is expected to ship in 3-4 weeks, which is much longer when compared to the 21.5-inch iMacs, which are available to ship in 7-10 business days.

Apple Approaches Twitter To Get Into Social Media

Posted By: Poketors - July 28, 2012
Here is a flashing news in social media, technology giant Apple has held talks in recent months with micro-blogging site 'Twitter' on the possibility of undertaking multi-million dollar investments in the network, a media report has said.

Apple Approaches Twitter To Get Into Social Media"Apple, which has stumbled in its efforts to get into social media, has talked with Twitter in recent months about making a strategic investment in it," The New York Times said yesterday, citing source.

According to the daily, the iPhone maker has considered investing hundreds of millions of dollars, that could take Twitter's value up to USD 10 billion compared to its valuation of USD 8.4 billion last year.

However, citing a source, the daily said the two companies are not in negotiations at the moment but the recent talks are a sign that they may form a stronger partnership amid intensifying competition from Google and Facebook.

Both Twitter and Apple declined to comment on the matter, the daily added.

Apple has strongly sewn Twitter features into its phones and tablets, while Twitter has put more resources into managing its relationship with Apple, the daily said.

"...such a deal would give Apple more access to Twitter's deep understanding of the social Web, and pave the way for closer Twitter integration into Apple's products," the daily said.

According to the publication, Twitter with more than 140 million monthly active users has nearly USD 600 million cash in hand and does not need Apple's investment.

Moreover, the social network site is widely expected to pursue a public offering within the next few years irrespective of its deal with Apple, the daily said.

On Friday, Apple which tends to mostly buy small start ups, purchased a small mobile company for USD 356 million.

5 reasons - Android 4.0 Is Better Than iOS

Posted By: Poketors - July 28, 2012
Apple is supposed to be one of the leaders at the market of mobile operation systems, especially after the release of its new iOS 6. The company has brought several very decent improvements to the OS; however, there are some fields in which Apple lags behind Ice Cream Sandwich, an operation system developed by Google.

In case you don’t keep up with latest news regarding Android, Ice Cream Sandwich might be a new word for you. So let me explain about it. Since April 2009, each Android version has been developed under a codename based on a dessert or sweet treat. Ice Cream Sandwich is the codename for Android 4.0, one of the latest versions of the Android platform.

5 reasons - Android 4.0 Is Better Than iOS

So, let’s have a look at the features that make ICS the best mobile operation system for now.

Multitasking

Ice Cream Sandwich offers a much better and more advanced multitasking option for users than iOS. The ‘Recent Apps’ function on Android devices with a 4.0 support makes it easy to multitask. All you need is to press the button and the mobile apps that you have recently used will be listed for you and you will be able to choose if to close or reopen them.

iOS multitasking function is more time consuming. You will have to click twice at the Home button and it will show you the recently used apps. And only besides after this you will have to swipe in search of the application that you would like to use and then tap the app you chose to go to it.

Hardware Options

This is one of the most important differences between iOS and Android OS. There are great variety of devices with different hardware sets that can run Android ICS, while iOS can be run ONLY by iPhones and iPads. And this limitation leads to the situation when mobile developers prefer to work with Android OS rather than with iOS just because Google and hardware manufacturers provide the choice for the developers with what devices to work.

Notifications

Apple has a very irritating way of showing a notification – a flip-down banner that looks like an ad somewhere in the Net.

Android notifications consist of a pull-down tray giving you the option to clear notifications that are unwanted and to save the important ones to review later. Besides, you don’t have to unlock your Android gadget to pull down the notifications.

Home Screen and Resizable Widgets

Ice Cream Sandwich offers a very customizable home screen to Android users. You will be able to group your applications on the home screen in a way you want. Besides, it allows you to embed live app content just through the interactive widgets installed. It mean that you may check your e-mails and updates, stream music, etc. without launching an application. It also saves the battery life that makes the users even more delighted with such function. Most of the widgets are resizable, so you can adjust the size so that to make the use of your Android phone convenient.

iOS provides only a very static home screen where you can see only some basic modification. Some people say it is a trade screen of Apple, but I think that it better only for company, not for users.

Face Unlock

Face Unlock is one of the most interesting and advanced feature in Android ICS that Apple’s iOS doesn’t have. It uses a facial recognition technology allowing nobody but you to lock or unlock the phone or tablet. This function makes your gadget save and secured.

Just don’t think that iOS is a complete failure, no. It is one of the best OS today, but still it is not perfect. And I hope that in future Apple developers will understand that variety and flexibility isn’t as bad as they think it is today.
