Not To Do Things With WordPress

Posted By: Arin Dey - January 24, 2014
People do start a blog with blogger/blogspot platform and once it is getting popular and able to create buzz in IT world. Once a blogger starts a WordPress site also keep the desire to make their site a stand-out. Obviously once you opt for this, would not let your WordPress go down by simple mistakes which could be ignored easily. This article will help you in learning how to avoid some common mistakes which in turn harm your WordPress site.

Bloggers or website owners can make an amazing WordPress site easily with some equally amazing content and images. And with the help of so many SEO plugins your blog an be visible in Google SERPs. But only if we care the below mentioned 3 important guidelines which many of us don't give much importance.

1. Avoid Free Hosting :

Free hosting is somewhat good and helpful for the starters or beginners who just stepped into blogging world. But after opting for WordPress you might have desired for better ranking and visibility for your blogs. So you can't expect free hosting will serve you as the same way what paid hosting does. We should always keep in mind that nothing is ever free. By using free hosting service you may be saving some bucks for the time being but it’ll cost you later in other ways. All the companies which offer these ‘free hosting’ services have to pay their bills somehow. The only way for them is spamming your website with ads and get money from advertisers. It does not annoy you only but distracting for your website visitors also. So go for some paid hosting service.

2. Avoid Downloading Free Widgets :

Apparently free widgets are great by looks and features. If you populate all this widgets in your blog then your blog loading speed may go down and it any widget doesn't work it may stuck in browser also. Available freely doesn't mean you have to feature all these widgets on your site. Always try to keep them limited and only install widgets that add some value to your site and its useful for your blog.

3. Avoid All Updates :

WordPress keeps releasing new updates very frequently including updates to the core, theme and plugin updates. Ignore all the update alerts if it is not that much necessary. Analyze first which updates are relevant to the functionality of your site then go ahead and ensure that it’s done timely basis and correctly using the services of a web host. Relevant updates will surely help your WordPress site to keep properly optimized and search engine friendly.

How To Add 125x125 Ad Slot To Your Blogger / Blogspot Blog

Posted By: Poketors - August 31, 2013
Sometimes bloggers wish to show their ads in small boxes instead of putting a large box of (300x250) which will occupy more space on your home page and will show only one ad. If you put four small boxes instead of the one large then you have the option to put 4 different ads. This can be done via CSS also but we have shown here a very easy way adding via HTML codes. Lets see how it works. here are the steps do it.
Step 1 : Go to Blogger Dashboard and click on "Layout" section.

Step 2 : Now click on "Add a Gadget" -> select it as "HTML/JavaScript". Copy paste the below code.

Note : Here the code with "<th.." is used for columns (here two columns) and the code with "<td.." is used for rows (here two rows).

Step 3 : Replace the example image URL with your advertiser image URL or affiliate marketers image URL.

Step 4 : Put 3 Ads space with your affiliates ads and keep one space showing "Advertise Here" for new advertiser so that advertiser can come to your blog with offers for their ads.

It is always advisable that we should keep at least one box for new advertisers because depending on your niche some advertisers may approach you with their ads and you can provide them the quote for your page space and location. So fix a price for ad slots available in your site and share the rates with advertisers.

How To Remove Default Comment Box From Blogger / Blogspot

Posted By: Poketors - August 13, 2013
Blogger or Blogspot has been always the first choice when someone decides to start up a new blog. In blogger templates we have default comment box and it comes in each and every post page below the post body. Here the main issue with comment box is that while the readers reading the post can comment anything.

How To Remove Default Comment Box From Blogger / Blogspot

As this is an open box and anyone can put comments, sometimes it leads to spams which is not possible to monitor and delete in regular basis. As an alternative bloggers use comment box from different sources, like most of us. use Disqus. The main advantage here is that you get all the comments to your Disqus account directly and you have the option to hide or remove any comment before it comes to your post page. So you can remove any comment which you don't think as relevant to the post.

Here is an easy way to remove or hide the default comment box from post pages in blogger. For this, no need to remove any code from blogger template.

Follow the below mentioned steps and hide it permanently.

1. Go to Blogger Dashboard

2. Edit Template

3. Now search for the following CSS code :
</b:skin>
4. Just before the above CSS part add the below code
#comments {
display: none!important;
}

5. Save you template and open your blog pages.

Note : In case, you want the comment box back to post pages, just remove the added code again.

How To Add Official Pin It Hover Button To Blogger

Posted By: Poketors - August 12, 2013
Pinterest is one of the best ways to share pictures from your blog by pinning it on pinterest boards listed by categories. Pinterest has its own official "Pin it" hover button which can be added to your blog/website and users can share it by clicking on "Pin it" button easily like in the below image.
How To Add Official Pin It Hover Button To Blogger

If you're not using the board or profile widget, here are the steps to add the code :

Add Official Pin It Hover Button To Blogger Google+1. Back Up Your Blogger Template :

-Go to Blogger dashboard -> "Template" and click the "Backup/Restore" button in the top right corner.
-Save the .xml file.

2. Edit your template by clicking the "Edit HTML" button.
3. Search for the
Tag
4. Add the below code just above the
tag:

5. Save Template.

That's it. You are done adding the "Pin it" button. You should see Pin it button appearing in the upper left corner of blog images when you hover your cursor over each image.

How to Remove the Button From Certain Images :

Two ways are there to remove the button from individual images. If you want to remove the button from an image and prevent your blog viewers from pinning the image, add the "nopin" attribute to the image.

To add the "nopin" attribute to an image in a post, compose in the HTML view of your post, and find the img src HTML markup for the image you want to "nopin". It looks like this HTML view of an image in Blogger:

Add Official Pin It Hover Button To Blogger

Add nopin="nopin" right after your image's width attribute like below:

NoPin It Hover Button To Blogger

When you save your post, the Pin It button will disappear from that image. It also won't be pinnable through the Pinmarklet.

If you want to remove the button from an image, but still let pinmarklet users pin the image, you can directly add the data-pin-no-hover="true" attribute to your image link instead. It is similar process as for the nopin attribute, here you have to enter data-pin-no-hover="true" instead.

How to Remove the Pin It Button from Header Images :

Normally it should not happen to everyone, but some of our blog readers have the Pin It button appearing on their header image. This is a peculiar instance and this you would definitely like to remove it. For this, you need to add some extra code.

You have to back up your template again. Then, find the
tag again, and enter this code snippet directly above the
tag, after your Pin It button code:

Pinterest Support

Pinterest-created buttons are used in this article and it is an official way to add Pin it button. Hence you can get support directly from Pinterest if you require. You can read the documentation and contact Pinterest support here.

Note : The hovering buttons skip images with a width or height less than 250px. Not sure whether this is intended by Pinterest and it is worth getting in touch with them if it's affecting your blog/website.

When it comes to SEO implementation on your blog, we can't say that blogger is the best blogging platform. Blogger can be an option for spammer to create dummy pages for marketing purpose and also it has multiple limitations associated with it. Blogger is staying behind the CMS (Content Management System) because it doesn't have that much support-ability of expert level compared WordPress for CMS on web.

Hence we have to acknowledge that WordPress is the best, most used and popular CMS. WordPress won several best CMS awards also. It is much more secured than Google's blogger. These are some reasons for which people are shifting their blogs from Blogger to WordPress because WordPress offers great support from the community. f) You will find now the authorize button. Click on that button and this option asks Blogger to grant authorization and permit WordPress to access your account.

How To Avoid SEO Mistakes Resulting Google Penalty

Posted By: Arin Dey - September 17, 2011
A lot of trick and exercises are there to get a better rank in the search engines using keywords, links and techniques to position your blog’s ranking in Google and other search engines. Moreover some techniques are there which lead you to penalty from Google. Even following some techniques can get your blog eliminated from Google search engine. So if you want to make your blog a hit then you need to work hard on your blog and always write own content.

SEO Mistakes Resulting Google Penalty
Image Credit : Google

Here we have summarized 6 mistakes resulting penalty and suggested some recommendations :

1. Never pay for text links for your blog

In Google's point of view, paying for text link advertising is a way to artificially gaining page hits with higher rank in search engine rankings. If you are observed that you are paying for text links for your blog the it might be possible that your blog may be eliminated from Google search, and there will be no point of page rank.
Stop link buying

2. Punish both the sites who offers and who publishes

In this case, Google punishes both the sites, the site that offers the paid text links and the site that publishes paid text links. Google eliminates its pages from its search engines for both sites which lead to totally loosing the web platform.

3. Try to avoid over mentioning keyword stuff in posts
Keyword stuffing is a technique in which bloggers overuse strong keywords in web pages for the purpose of getting better rank in search engines. In some websites we could find some unnecessarily added long list of keywords on the top or at the bottom of a Web page, which in fact never link to any page.

4. Always avoid hiding keywords inside post

Never hide keywords by writing in a very small font or a background matching color so that it won't be seen as they are almost matched to your blog’s background. Google searches for these kind of sites which do this and considers them doing spam, which lead to total blocking of your site with no page rank and no page found message in search result.

5. Keep writing original content and never copy others

This is the most important thing that you should follow. Never copy any content from any website, blog, and republish it in your own blog. In this way you are simply scraping content. Sometimes when required, it’s okay to copy a quote or small section of content from another site, where you should give credit to that site. But you should never copy the entire content and republish it on your site as your own content.

 • Some bloggers give permission to copy but you should always give credit to them so in these kind of cases if you copy without informing them, it will be considered as illegal as you are copying without their permission.
 • Google always considers the site who publishes the content first. So later on if some other sites are found copying the same content then Google might penalize those sites.
6. Never publish content with a lot of links

Links are required in post body to redirect to some linked articles but your entire content should not be full with links. As this practice will be considered as spam because in this case your site contents is lesser than your links and where the links are solely for advertisements.

Well. These are the common mistakes in SEO that most of the bloggers do. Hence we would like to request them to keep on eye on the above mentioned points.

Posted By: Arin Dey - September 17, 2011
If you search your website links in search engines then you will find that your blog title appears first followed by blog post title along with with other blogs. Now imagine a situation where you want to show only the blog post title and not blog title? In WordPress we can change title positions via All in One SEO settings very easily. But a lot of bloggers experience the issue while implementing in Blogger/Blogspot blogs. It requires a little bit of HTML code modification. Here, I will explain the way how to do that.

You can choose any of the 2 options :
 • Blog Post Title + Blog Title
 • Only Blog Post Title
Here we go with step by step process: (Assuming that you are using new blogger interface)

1. Login to Blogger account.
2. In Dashboard select the blog and click on the Template button.
3. Click on Edit HTML. Proceed to edit.

4. Now search for this tag.

<data:blog.pageTitle/>

5. If you want to show only Blog Post Title then replace it with following code:
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'>

<data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/>

<b:else/>

<data:blog.pageTitle/>

</b:if>
For Blog Post Title followed by Blog Title option, replace the same tag with following code:
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'>

<data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/>

<b:else/>

<data:blog.pageTitle/> | <data:blog.title/>

</b:if>
That's all. Isn't that simple? You can search your posts picking randomly from your blog in search engines. There you will find that your post title is appearing before your blog title.

Posted By: Arin Dey - September 12, 2011
Some of our readers asked us about some widget on how to add a floating bar of social media buttons to a Blogger/Blogspot blog. So we scripted the widget, hence you don’t have to go into your template HTML to install (or remove) it. We have done it so simple, where you can only copy the whole code and paste into a HTML/Javascript gadget.
How To Add Floating Social Media Sharing Buttons To Blogger

Here in this How-to add social media sharing buttons guide we have included Facebook Share, Retweet, StumbleUpon, Digg This and Google +1 (plus one) buttons in the left bar. Each of the share button comes with a a live counter. Here depending upon the f-likes, re-tweets and other likes the counter will increase in number.

How to add the buttons

1. Login to your Blogger dashboard.
2. Go to Layout > Page Elements.
3. Now Click on Add A Gadget.
4. In Add A Gadget window, select HTML/Javascript .

5. Copy the code below and paste it inside the content box.

Share

<g:plusone size="tall"></g:plusone>

6. After copying, save the gadget.
7. Now drag the gadget and reposition it under Blog Posts gadget.
8. Click Save arrangement button on upper right corner.

How to customize the buttons

1.Vertical alignment
You need to change the value of bottom in code line 3. That code will position the button relative to the bottom of your browser window. In case you want to fix the distance even when window is resized, specify the value in px (pixels) instead of %.

2. Horizontal alignment
Change the value of margin-left (search for the code). Now here if we enter 'negative value' which will push the button to the left of the main blog column, in case we enter 'positive value' it pushes it to the right.
So, to position the button relative to the left or right edge of browser window, replace the margin-left with left (as in left:10px;) or right (as in right:10px;) respectively.

3. In case, replacing and removing buttons
You can replace existing buttons with your own. Each button is represented by this code:

BUTTON CODE

While replacing the button, simply replace the button code with the new code. To remove the button, delete the whole div.

If you face any issue displaying your Google +1 button, despite other buttons appear successfully, try this :
 • Go to Template > Edit HTML and find this line:

or

 • Now copy the code in step # 5 and paste it right below the line.
 • Click preview before saving.
We have done installing the widget for floating social media share buttons bar.
