How To Update And Replace Existing Files in Google Drive

Posted By: Arin Dey - July 28, 2015

When you have to deal with multiple copies of the same file in the Drive, apart from creating confusion, the files also take up a certain amount of valuable storage space in your Drive. Don't you think it would be easier if you could simply replace an existing file in your Google Drive with the new version instead of uploading it as a separate file? Yes, you can do it easily by following a few steps given below.

How to replace files in google drive:

1. Open Google Drive and choose any file that you would like to update. File format supports like PDF, text files, images or even videos.

2. Select “Manage versions” from the menu by right clicking on the file and then select the “Upload new version” button to upload the updated file to your Google Drive.

3. And you are done. The file name and the file’s URL will not change and all the old links that have been shared earlier will now automatically point to the new version of your file.

You can use the same technique to replace a file in one format with another format. In case you have a jpg file in the Drive that you would want to replace with a png of smaller file size, then it's the same “Manage versions” option that will work. The best part here is that you can have the same link as you had previously.

Google Slashed Cloud Storage Prices

Posted By: Arin Dey - March 15, 2014
Google has slashed the cost of its cloud monthly storage plans to keep its service and offerings the best available online.

Google Drive director of product management Scott Johnston wrote in a blog post saying that “Whether it’s all the footage of your kids’ baseball games, the novel you’re working on, or even just your grocery list for the week, we all have files that are too important to lose. Today, thanks to a number of recent infrastructure improvements, we’re able to make it more affordable for you to keep everything safe and easy to reach on any device, from anywhere.”

Google Slashed Cloud Storage Prices

Google's 100GB plan has dropped to $1.99 a month from $4.99, while the 15GB plan remains free. The cost for the one 1TB has been slashed $30 — from $49.99 to $9.99. The 10TB plan will cost $99.99 while 20TB will cost $199.99 and 30 TB $299.99 a month.

Google says about terabyte as “enough storage for you to take a selfie twice a day for the next 200 years and still have room left over for… shall we say… less important things.”

Google's chief competitors Dropbox and Box have already made a huge numbers of users and the services offered by these two companies are very much appreciable also. Dropbox offers only 2GB of free space and 100GB for $9.99 a month. The most popular plan for business is the unlimited storage for $15 per month per user with five or more users where as Box offers 10GB of free storage,100GB for $5 a month, 1,000GB for $15 and unlimited for $35.

Johnston also added that the users who already pay for storage will automatically be moved to a better plan at no additional cost. You can visit Google’s website for more detailed info regarding plans.

New Google Sheets Works Offline

Posted By: Poketors - December 13, 2013
Google Sheets has only been available to users with an Internet connection until now. Google has made it possible for users to work with or without a network connection introducing latest update to Sheets.

Google says “Whether you’re crunching big data or tracking your family budget, you don’t want to waste time waiting for files to load or re-doing edits that were lost because your Internet connection dropped. You can now get more done by switching to the new version of Google Sheets. It’s faster, supports larger spreadsheets, has a number of new features, and works offline.”

It also added “You shouldn't have to think about whether you have a WiFi connection when you want to work. So just like Google Docs and Slides, you can now make edits to Sheets offline. When you reconnect to the Internet, your edits will automatically sync. If you've edited Docs or Slides offline in the past, then you’re already set up to edit Sheets offline.”

Setup instructions are also available for setting up offline in Chrome.

Hope Google's effort brings much more flexibility and accessibility while accessing your files on the go. Share your comments.

Google Introduces Google Drive

Posted By: Poketors - April 28, 2012
Google Drive has arrived on net, which is a place where you can create, share, collaborate, and keep all of your stuff. Whether you’re working with a friend on a joint research project, planning a wedding with your fiancĂ© or tracking a budget with roommates, you can do it in Drive. You can upload and access all of your files, including videos, photos, Google Docs, PDFs and beyond.
Google Introduces Google Drive
With Google Drive, you can:

Create and collaborate. Google Docs is built right into Google Drive, so you can work with others in real time on documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Once you choose to share content with others, you can add and reply to comments on anything (PDF, image, video file, etc.) and receive notifications when other people comment on shared items.

Store everything safely and access it anywhere (especially while on the go). All your stuff is just... there. You can access your stuff from anywhere—on the web, in your home, at the office, while running errands and from all of your devices. You can install Drive on your Mac or PC and can download the Drive app to your Android phone or tablet. We’re also working hard on a Drive app for your iOS devices. And regardless of platform, blind users can access Drive with a screen reader.

Search everything. Search by keyword and filter by file type, owner and more. Drive can even recognize text in scanned documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. Let’s say you upload a scanned image of an old newspaper clipping. You can search for a word from the text of the actual article. We also use image recognition so that if you drag and drop photos from your Grand Canyon trip into Drive, you can later search for [grand canyon] and photos of its gorges should pop up. This technology is still in its early stages, and we expect it to get better over time. You can get started with 5GB of storage for free—that’s enough to store the high-res photos of your trip to the Mt. Everest, scanned copies of your grandparents’ love letters or a career’s worth of business proposals, and still have space for the novel you’re working on. You can choose to upgrade to 25GB for $2.49/month, 100GB for $4.99/month or even 1TB for $49.99/month. When you upgrade to a paid account, your Gmail account storage will also expand to 25GB.

Drive is built to work seamlessly with your overall Google experience. You can attach photos from Drive to posts in Google+, and soon you’ll be able to attach stuff from Drive directly to emails in Gmail. Drive is also an open platform, so we’re working with many third-party developers so you can do things like send faxes, edit videos and create website mockups directly from Drive. To install these apps, visit the Chrome Web Store—and look out for even more useful apps in the future.

Recently, Google has published the article on Google Drive in it's blog.
