Google Sells Motorola To Lenovo For $2.91 Billion

Posted By: Arin Dey - January 30, 2014
Google has declared in its official blog that they have sold out their mobility unit Motorola to Chinese computer maker Lenovo for $2.91bn (£1.8bn). Google paid $12.5bn at the time when it bought the company around two years ago.
The search giant will keep the majority of Motorola's lucrative patents  for Android software.

Google's official blog post said the smartphone market was "super competitive" and that Motorola would "be better served by Lenovo".

After this purchase, Lenovo will become the world's third-largest smartphone maker after Samsung and Apple. Strategy Analytics, a company on market research,  said in a blog post that Lenovo had made "a good move" and would benefit from economies of scale from smartphones.

It also added that "The Chinese vendor gets access to the valuable US smartphone market and the fast-growing Latin America region. This complements its existing global PC business. For Motorola, it gains access to an ambitious sugar daddy that has a strong presence in the huge China market. For Google, it divests a loss-making hardware division,"

Moto G Will Be Available Online In India

Posted By: Arin Dey - January 21, 2014
It may be a planned strategy of Google to enter into Indian market again but yes now Motorola comes with two new model phones, the Moto X and the Moto G. Moto X is available US exclusively but Moto G has been launched outside US and as per the latest reports and this cheaper smartphone from Motorola will be available in Indian market this week.

Till August 2012, some smartphones were seen in India now again Motorola's Moto G is comign to India. This cheaper smartphone than of the Moto X  was launched in Brazil, US, and some Latin American countries in November last year. Motorola had planned their launch in India and it would come sometime in Jan 2014. As expected Motorola is coming now. It was launched with a price of $179 for the 8GB of storage and $199 for the 16GB model in the US. It is already launched in Australia, Malaysia and Dubai.

Now lets look at the technical specifications. Moto G comes with a 4.5-inch, 720p display (329 ppi), 1GB of RAM and a quad-core, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. Initially it was available with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and recently updated to Android 4.4 KitKat. Battery is 2,070mAh with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 720p video recording and a 1.3-megapixel front camera.

Motorola's most expected Moto G smartphone will be launched online initially that means we can’t expect to experience hands on soon in mobile retail shops.

Though there are no such hands down factors it has except if it comes with DUAL SIM in Indian market then it would gain more popularity as a lot of other brands in India are releasing with DUAL SIM.  Due to less marketing strategy taken in advance, Moto G is most probably not available to offline retailers. Flipkart is partnered with Motorola for selling online at its launch. Obviously Motorola will sell the Moto G in India with a lesser price compared to the rate in other countries. Lets watch the space for Moto G launch whether it can keep the word for their tagline "Exceptional Phone, Exceptional Price".
