Mozilla Includes “One-Click Searches” To Firefox

Posted By: Arin Dey - November 26, 2014
Mozilla revealed the new royalty agreement with Yahoo last week regarding 5 years default search provider on Firefox beating Google. Within a week's time it has come up with another news that Firefox is adding  a feature which enables users to search with a single click. When users type a string into the Firefox search box, they will get a list of more organized search options from the default search engine. And even better, an array of buttons below these suggestions will allow users to choose which search engine or site they want to send the query to.

Lets see in the below example. Suppose, a user types "Mozilla" into the search box, they can search the term directly on Wikipedia.

Firefox is built with a set of pre-loaded search engines that are supported in different languages. Yahoo will be the new U.S. default search engine, Yandex will be the new default in Russia, and Baidu will remain the default in China.

This "one-click search engines" section in the settings helps user who can easily hide and show sites and alternate search options. Mozilla is also keep in introducing MDN, Stack Overflow, Yelp and dictionary sites are possible additions.

As per Mozilla the features are "coming soon to a Firefox near you!" but it didn't reveal when these updates will be rolling out. Hope this will help and take ahead Firefox from its closest rival Chrome.

Mozilla Updates Firefox Interface
The most important major change is in the customization available to users. Features of the browser can be rearranged within the interface. Tabs have been improved so there’s no more guessing about the tab you are using.

Like Google Chrome, Firefox now also has an account feature. It means you can sync between a set of versions allowing for smooth transition from device to device. Initially the old firefox users won't like the interface much because its been provided with a different pattern. Still as times goes they can adapt the feature usage. But Chrome users can find some similarities, which will make them easy to use Firefox.

Mozilla already has six carriers interested in selling the phone though none are in the United States, from an internet source.

Mozilla CEO Jay Sullivan said “What we are all about is bringing people online. Tonight’s exciting for Mozilla with a $25 smartphone based on Spreadtrum chips. With turnkey designs, you’ll see a flood of $25 Smartphones. It’s not enough to have two OS’s [Android and iOS] in the world dominating.”

Though it will be very difficult to introduce a new operating system in this competitive market but as we can see that low cost smartphones are already ruling the market and as of now, there are 15 countries in Europe and Latin America serviced through the company. More than 12 other countries are going to introduce the smartphones by this year end.

Mozilla Foundation chairman Mitchell Baker said the move means customers will have choice like he said that “We are committed to an open platform [that] works across a variety of devices. It is called the Web."
