5 reasons - Android 4.0 Is Better Than iOS

Posted By: Poketors - July 28, 2012
Apple is supposed to be one of the leaders at the market of mobile operation systems, especially after the release of its new iOS 6. The company has brought several very decent improvements to the OS; however, there are some fields in which Apple lags behind Ice Cream Sandwich, an operation system developed by Google.

In case you don’t keep up with latest news regarding Android, Ice Cream Sandwich might be a new word for you. So let me explain about it. Since April 2009, each Android version has been developed under a codename based on a dessert or sweet treat. Ice Cream Sandwich is the codename for Android 4.0, one of the latest versions of the Android platform.

5 reasons - Android 4.0 Is Better Than iOS

So, let’s have a look at the features that make ICS the best mobile operation system for now.

Multitasking

Ice Cream Sandwich offers a much better and more advanced multitasking option for users than iOS. The ‘Recent Apps’ function on Android devices with a 4.0 support makes it easy to multitask. All you need is to press the button and the mobile apps that you have recently used will be listed for you and you will be able to choose if to close or reopen them.

iOS multitasking function is more time consuming. You will have to click twice at the Home button and it will show you the recently used apps. And only besides after this you will have to swipe in search of the application that you would like to use and then tap the app you chose to go to it.

Hardware Options

This is one of the most important differences between iOS and Android OS. There are great variety of devices with different hardware sets that can run Android ICS, while iOS can be run ONLY by iPhones and iPads. And this limitation leads to the situation when mobile developers prefer to work with Android OS rather than with iOS just because Google and hardware manufacturers provide the choice for the developers with what devices to work.

Notifications

Apple has a very irritating way of showing a notification – a flip-down banner that looks like an ad somewhere in the Net.

Android notifications consist of a pull-down tray giving you the option to clear notifications that are unwanted and to save the important ones to review later. Besides, you don’t have to unlock your Android gadget to pull down the notifications.

Home Screen and Resizable Widgets

Ice Cream Sandwich offers a very customizable home screen to Android users. You will be able to group your applications on the home screen in a way you want. Besides, it allows you to embed live app content just through the interactive widgets installed. It mean that you may check your e-mails and updates, stream music, etc. without launching an application. It also saves the battery life that makes the users even more delighted with such function. Most of the widgets are resizable, so you can adjust the size so that to make the use of your Android phone convenient.

iOS provides only a very static home screen where you can see only some basic modification. Some people say it is a trade screen of Apple, but I think that it better only for company, not for users.

Face Unlock

Face Unlock is one of the most interesting and advanced feature in Android ICS that Apple’s iOS doesn’t have. It uses a facial recognition technology allowing nobody but you to lock or unlock the phone or tablet. This function makes your gadget save and secured.

Just don’t think that iOS is a complete failure, no. It is one of the best OS today, but still it is not perfect. And I hope that in future Apple developers will understand that variety and flexibility isn’t as bad as they think it is today.

How To Access Android Phones Using Ubuntu

Posted By: Poketors - February 22, 2012
Now you can use your Android Device using Ubuntu. Use Android on the phone and Ubuntu as your desktop, both running simultaneously on the same device, with seamless sharing of contacts, messages and other common services. Canonical unveiled Ubuntu for Android, bringing the world’s favourite free desktop experience to multi-core Android smartphones docked with a keyboard and monitor.
How To Access Android Phones Using Ubuntu

The phone experience is pure Android – it’s a normal Android phone. When the device is connected to a computer screen, however, it launches a full Ubuntu desktop on the computer display. It’s exactly the same desktop used by millions of enterprise and home users on their Ubuntu PCs, and includes hundreds of certified applications, from office productivity to photography, video and music.
All data and services are shared between the Ubuntu and Android environments, which run simultaneously on the device. So Android applications such as contacts, telephony and SMS/MMS messaging are accessible from the Ubuntu interface. Indeed, all data on the smartphone can be accessed at any time, docked or not.

Ubuntu On Android Phones

Ubuntu for Android gives mobile workers a company phone that is also their enterprise desktop. Government and private institutions have embraced Ubuntu on the desktop because of its ease of use, security, manageability, superb range of native applications and excellent support for web browsers like Chrome and Firefox. The desktop can also include Windows applications, using thin client and desktop virtualisation tools. Today’s IT departments commonly support a PC and at least one desktop phone for every employee. Many also provide and manage mobile phones. Ubuntu for Android presents a compelling solution to IT complexity by reducing that burden to a single device.

Mark Shuttleworth said:

“The desktop is the killer-app for quad-core phones in 2012. Ubuntu for Android transforms your high-end phone into your productive desktop, whenever you need it”.

Chrome is now available in Beta from Android Market, in select countries (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Australia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil) and languages for phones and tablets with Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Speed

With Chrome for Android, you can search, navigate and browse fast—Chrome fast. You can scroll through web pages as quickly as you can flick your finger. When searching, your top search results are loaded in the background as you type so pages appear instantly. And of course, both search and navigation can all be done quickly from the Chrome omnibox.

Simplicity

Chrome for Android is designed from the ground up for mobile devices. Google re-imagined tabs so they fit just as naturally on a small-screen phone as they do on a larger screen tablet. You can flip or swipe between an unlimited number of tabs using intuitive gestures, as if you’re holding a deck of cards in the palm of your hands, each one a new window to the web.

One of the biggest pains of mobile browsing is selecting the correct link out of several on a small-screen device. Link Preview does away with hunting and pecking for links on a web page by automatically zooming in on links to make selecting the precise one easier.

And as with Chrome on desktop, Google built Chrome for Android with privacy in mind from the beginning, including incognito mode for private browsing and fine-grained privacy options (tap menu icon, ‘Settings,’ and then ‘Privacy’).

Signing in

You can now bring your personalized Chrome experience with you to your Android phone or tablet. Sign in to Chrome to bring your open tabs, bookmarks and omnibox data from your computer to your phone or tablet. That way, you have your Chrome, on all of your devices.

If you sign in to Chrome on your Android device, you can:
  • View open tabs: Need to step away from your computer? Access the tabs you have open on your computer right on your phone or tablet and pick up where you left off.
  • Sync bookmarks: Find your bookmarks on all of your devices. Quickly go to your favorite sites, no matter where you are.
  • Get smarter suggestions: Take your omnibox everywhere. Visit a site often on your computer and you’ll get an autocomplete suggestion for it on your phone, so you can spend less time typing.
  • Send to mobile: Send pages from your computer to your phone or tablet with a single click. You can read them on the go, even when you’re offline.
  • Auto sign-in: Automatically sign in to Google sites, like Gmail, for fast and seamless browsing. [source]

Developer Will Prefer Android Over iOS

Posted By: Poketors - January 24, 2012
Google's Android Operating System will be holding the place as the most important platform for developers within the next 12 months leaving iOS behind. This can be predicted by the recent survey conducted by London based Ovum. Till date almost all developers support both as their important platform.

Developer Will Prefer Android Over iOS

At the second annual developer survey, the independent technology analyst reveals that while iOS and Android form the core of developer support, there also exists growing interest from developers in BlackBerry OS and Microsoft Windows Phone as other platforms for development.

Developers have been quick to respond to the exit of once-important smartphone platforms such as Windows Mobile, Symbian and WebOS, and have embraced opportunities that have arisen through emerging platforms.

The research also shows a move away from traditional cross-platform mobile application development approaches (e.g. Java, Flash, WAP). Instead, developers are focusing their efforts on web-based standards (e.g. HTML5), which seem to be the preferred approach to building cross-platform applications.

Yet, despite the increasing use of cross-platform programming approaches, most developers are still using vendor-specific distribution channels (e.g. Android Market) to deploy applications, as this is seen as the best way to reach the largest possible audience for their applications.

Adam Leach is the devices & platforms practice leader at Ovum and author of the research. He shared his views as mentioned below :
“The growing momentum behind Windows Phone indicates that Microsoft has managed to convince developers that its platform is worthy of investment; its challenge now is to persuade consumers. A smartphone platform’s success is dictated not only by the pull of consumers and the push of handset vendors and mobile operators but also by a healthy economy of applications delivered by third-party developers. Therefore, it is important for all players in the smartphone ecosystem to understand the choices developers are making today and the downstream impact of those choices”.

Aakash Tablet Website
The Classpad comes in the range of Rs 7,500-14,000. It has three models : Classpad 7, Classpad 8 and Classpad 10.

This tablet claims to have more than 6 hours of battery life which means better than any low-priced android tablets available in the market now. This will be available for public in 2012 only and also will be available online. It may threaten Government’s Aakash tablet which has only one and half hours of battery life.

It seems that they have considered to get a developed version of the Aakash tablet and they included such features like :

1. Touch screen,
2. Better battery life,
3. Speed of 1.3 Ghz processing and
4. A built-in memory of 4 Gb and it can also be expandable to 8 Gb.

Classpad is also equipped with artificial intelligence and is built on the Android platform.

The officials of Classteacher Learning Systems plans to take the device to the market through two business routes:

1. Trolley model and
2. ‘One Tablet Per Child’ (OTPC) model.

Here in  the Trolley model, the device can be used on a shared manner by paying Rs 100 per child, whereas in OTPC model, the parents have to pay for the device. Seeing the price and the features of the device, it can be assumed that it will create some noise in the Android India market. But one thing is clear that it is costlier than Aakash tablets series which is available within the range of Rs 2,499 to Rs. 2,999.
