Twitter Acquires Android Lock Screen App "Cover"

Posted By: Arin Dey - April 08, 2014
Twitter acquired Android lock screen app Cover for enhancing its social media engagement. The app will remain in the Google Play Store. Cover provides quick access to apps when they are required by learning which apps a person uses for different tasks. After that it put the apps right on a user’s lock screen for easy access.

Twitter Acquires Android Lock Screen App "Cover"

The start-up, which launched its Cover app in beta in October, is joining Twitter to further capitalize on its goal of using Android to “make people’s lives easier.”

Cover blog states that “It’s been an incredible journey, a journey that we’re excited to announce is taking a turn today as we bring the Cover team to Twitter to take these ideas even further. Twitter, like Cover, believes in the incredible potential of Android. They share our vision that smartphones can be a lot smarter — more useful and more contextual — and together we’re going to make that happen. We’ll be building upon a lot of what makes Cover great, and we’re thrilled to create something even better at Twitter.”

Twitter has not revealed its plans for Cover or how it will use the start-up’s technology to enhance the social network. Twitter tweets as “Welcome to the flock @coverscreen! We’re excited too.”

Posted By: Arin Dey - March 19, 2014
Google’s blog announced that they are going to extend the Android support-ability to the wearables. As of now they mentioned as watches which will feature Android abilities. They will release few apps for watches.

Google Launches Android Wear

Sundar Pichai, senior vice-president of Android, Chrome and Apps stated that “Today we’re announcing Android Wear, a project that extends Android to wearables. And we’re starting with the most familiar wearable — watches. Going well beyond the mere act of just telling you the time, a range of new devices along with an expansive catalogue of apps will give you” the following features :
  1. Useful information when you need it most.
  2. Straight answers to spoken questions.
  3. The ability to better monitor your health and fitness.
  4. Your key to a multiscreen world.
It is also found that all the users will get everything from notifications from social networks to chat access to fitness apps. The watches will be equipped with Android capabilities and it will work in a similar fashion as a Smartphone does.

If you are an Android developer then we recommend you to visit Android Wear site for further information. Developers can now download a preview to modify their app notifications for watches powered by Android Wear.

Pichai also added that “Because Android for wearables works with Android’s rich notification system, many apps will already work well. Look out for more developer resources and APIs coming soon. We’re also already working with several consumer electronics manufacturers, including Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung; chip makers Broadcom, Imagination, Intel, Mediatek and Qualcomm; and fashion brands like the Fossil Group to bring you watches powered by Android Wear later this year.”

Windows Phone Includes Android As Dual OS

Posted By: Arin Dey - March 16, 2014
Now smartphone users are getting dual OS.  Huawei is already decided to keep on making Windows OS phones but the most happening news is that Android systems are going to integrate with present Windows OS. It means that users can get the opportunity to use both the OS according to their choices.

Windows Phone Includes Android As Dual OS

Shao Yang, Huawei’s CMO, told TrustedReviews.com “We are still committed to making Windows Phone devices”. He also added that Android devices are more popular on the market.

As per him a “dual OS” incorporating both Android and Windows on a Windows Phone would be the greatest move that the company has yet taken.

He added that “If it is Windows only, maybe people will not find it as easy a decision to buy the phone. If they have the Android and Windows together, you can change it as you wish and it is much easier for people to choose Windows Phone. We think the dual OS can be a new choice for the consumer. It will be on sale in the US in Q2.”

In January, at the Consumer Electronics Show, Intel displayed a chip created for such dual OS devices. It means that the concept is not new and not only used by Huawei but Intel may reveal their new products also.

Android Data Can Be Mirrored To Chromecast

Posted By: Arin Dey - February 18, 2014
Chromecast can get 'mirrored data' from your Android device apps. In play store you will find some other apps that allow partial linking. But Koushik Dutta, creator of AllCast, posted to a video on YouTube that demonstrated his free, though not-yet-available app that links his Android phone to his television. This app is the first so far we have seen that links everything on an Android to a television via Chromecast. He in his video post on YouTube, demonstrated his free, though not-yet-available app that links his Android phone to his television. In this one-minute video shows him playing a game and checking his Facebook feed on his phone while, simultaneously, his actions are mirrored on his large television perfectly.

Android Data Can Be Mirrored To Chromecast
Dutta posted on his Google + page as “Fills the TV screen. Looks decent.” AllCast which is created by Dutta was the initial app that linked Android and Chromecast but its original form was limited in its mirroring facilities.

Google released Chromecast on the market 7 months back but, since then, it has not been used much and couldn't receive much reviews regarding the product. Still some developers like Koushik Dutta, are creating some apps for future use.

He posted that “Did some poking around to see how far along Google is with their Chromecast mirroring solution. There’s plenty of evidence that there’s some (possibly half baked) solution in the Play Services APK and it is not totally disabled. This is why people are seeing their “Cast” quick setting tile sometimes light up.”

He also mentioned some of the unavailable features like inability to play a raw h264 of vp8 stream as well as a slow process in sending frame by frames. But as a whole in the run he is going ahead.

You can watch the following video on YouTube to know how it works.

Nokia Android Phone Nokia X (Normandy) Specs Leaked

Posted By: Arin Dey - January 30, 2014
Nokia is entering into the android world at last. Since a few years, Nokia was trying to make a positive impact on smartphone market but except its brand Lumia, others didn't create much buzz. Even after being acquired by Microsoft, its new venture with android would definitely make a positive buzz to reach out the smartphone users. News from leaked sources which reveal that the phone is rumored to be a replacement for the aging Asha range of phones running Nokia’s Series 40 software. The codename is Normandy and known as Nokia X.
Image : @evleaks
Nokia X has shown up on a benchmarking test website. It seems that the phone will be a modest performer in the market with similar featured phones. No proof found whether the benchmark results is fake or not. But the source of the initial images was seen on @evleaks Twitter account  which came up with a list of specs for the new phone.

If this news is true, this new smartphone may have a 4-inch touchscreen with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, and be powered by a dual-core, 1GHz Snapdragon processor with 512MB of RAM. Considering this specs, we can't compare with Nokia’s high-end Lumia hardware, but it should be a competitive phone compared to other phones with android.

Sex With Glass App Lets You Share Intimate Acts

Posted By: Arin Dey - January 24, 2014
“Sex with Google Glass", a controversial app will be available very soon. It will allow users to use their device as a mirror to view intimacy from their partner’s point of view from both sides. It lets two people share their video feeds so they can see their intimate acts. The app is designed to run on Google Glass. The Sex with Google Glass project is positioning itself as a sex-enhancement app.
How It Works?

The app records a couple’s view sessions and then makes a video where both partners viewpoints can be seen. The recorded video will be available for five hours. App developer Sherif Maktabi explains that until and unless users save the video the app will remove it once the 5 hours time limit is over.

How to start?

Starting the process is simple. Users just have to say “OK, Glass, it’s time.” Once finished, the couple can instruct it by saying “OK, Glass, pull out.” and the app will stop recording immediately.

The app provides some mood-elevating music or even suggestions for sex positions, which help users to enjoy during the process.

How to get the app?

It is not yet downloadable. Developer Sherif Maktabi is working on the app to make it available on Google Glass as well as for iOS and Android. The app’s developer says the app was originally designed for Google Glass. But as per the market demand, his team decided to release it first for iOS to get the app on the market as Google Glass is not widely used till date like the Apple iPhone. Check out the app and experience about it here : http://www.glassandsex.com/

Google's reaction on the app?

Google may not be interested in the app at all as Google has its strict policy against pornography apps. It depends on the policy set by Google whether to block porn apps from Glass or not.

But Maktabi told CNET that his app isn’t about porn. He added, “If you read between the lines, we are not a sex app. We are something that changes the way you experience something personal. Our app is designed to be beautiful, minimalist, and simple. There is nothing sexual about that.”

Lets see how it works with iPhone and android devices.  Launching it as an official Glass app will be more lengthy process but implementing on Google Glass would be much interesting.

Moto G Will Be Available Online In India

Posted By: Arin Dey - January 21, 2014
It may be a planned strategy of Google to enter into Indian market again but yes now Motorola comes with two new model phones, the Moto X and the Moto G. Moto X is available US exclusively but Moto G has been launched outside US and as per the latest reports and this cheaper smartphone from Motorola will be available in Indian market this week.

Till August 2012, some smartphones were seen in India now again Motorola's Moto G is comign to India. This cheaper smartphone than of the Moto X  was launched in Brazil, US, and some Latin American countries in November last year. Motorola had planned their launch in India and it would come sometime in Jan 2014. As expected Motorola is coming now. It was launched with a price of $179 for the 8GB of storage and $199 for the 16GB model in the US. It is already launched in Australia, Malaysia and Dubai.

Now lets look at the technical specifications. Moto G comes with a 4.5-inch, 720p display (329 ppi), 1GB of RAM and a quad-core, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. Initially it was available with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and recently updated to Android 4.4 KitKat. Battery is 2,070mAh with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 720p video recording and a 1.3-megapixel front camera.

Motorola's most expected Moto G smartphone will be launched online initially that means we can’t expect to experience hands on soon in mobile retail shops.

Though there are no such hands down factors it has except if it comes with DUAL SIM in Indian market then it would gain more popularity as a lot of other brands in India are releasing with DUAL SIM.  Due to less marketing strategy taken in advance, Moto G is most probably not available to offline retailers. Flipkart is partnered with Motorola for selling online at its launch. Obviously Motorola will sell the Moto G in India with a lesser price compared to the rate in other countries. Lets watch the space for Moto G launch whether it can keep the word for their tagline "Exceptional Phone, Exceptional Price".

Google Partners With Audi For Android-based Vehicle Operating System

Posted By: Poketors - January 01, 2014
Google has partnered with famous car company Audi to introduce android based vehicle operating system. Apple is already in the race to claim the market on OS installed in vehicles.

Both the companies is planning to develop an Android-based entertainment and information system installed in car dashboards, according to the latest from the Wall Street Journal.

During Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, sources say the Android OS would include apps for music and navigation which are popularly available in mobile devices.

Google has to work hard to reach the success of Apple which announced its own iOS feature for vehicles earlier this year. Apple has signed on with a number of car companies including BMW, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Infiniti, Honda and Ferrari.

Apple’s iOS requires an Apple device to operate but Android is much more universal and supports a lot of other device manufacturers, which is an added anvantage for Google.

Apple’s new operating system will be introduced in vehicles by 2015. Google and Audi will begin integrating Android technology into cars but there is no update for the date and time.

Changing platform has been always a big headache as you have already stored your data onto your Android phone and again you have to migrate all your data to your new phone. It sounds hectic but no worries. We will guide you all the way from start to finish step by step.
If you are an Android user and want to move your data from Android to your new iPhone you can follow the below mentioned steps :

Managing Email Accounts And Social Media Accounts

1. Google, Exchange, Yahoo!, Aol., Outlook.com etc.

A lot of cloud services are there for maintaining email accounts and social media sites which can store your contacts, photos, calendars, documents, posts etc.  These can be easily archived in your new phone. If you are worries about the cross-platform supported services such as Google, Exchange, or Yahoo!  then no issues at all. All of them are supported in iOS 7. It basically provide an option so that you have to put a minimal effort in importing all of your data from Android phone. So it makes your effort easy now as you just have to enter credentials for any of the supported services that can be found within the iOS 7 Settings menu, and simply select which data you want to pull in; mail, contacts, calendars or notes. Using Cloud Service Like Dropbox :

Dropbox is supported on both the platforms Android and iOS and it also provides the option to upload your images or any other data automatically  or you can upload your backed up data like documents, music, files etc to store on Dropbox cloud. If you are using Dropbox for Android App then you can easily sign in to the same Dropbox account via Dropbox For iOS App.

Using Device to Device Transfer :

If you like to keep a  copy of your contacts on your computer, or just want to avoid the cloud syncing service, you can export your contacts from your Android phone as a .vcf file. Later on you can import that into Contacts at iCloud.com.

Lets start the process by following the below steps:

1. Launch the Contacts app.
2. Press Menu button.
3. Search for the Import/Export option and select it.
4. Select the option to export your contacts to storage.
5. Pull it from your phone to your computer or email it to yourself
6. Once the contacts transfer is over, you can upload it to iCloud.com.

Note : But always remember one thing that before doing any steps, take a backup so that if something goes wrong you can restore easily.

Using Android File Transfer :

If you are using a Windows PC, then transferring data from your Android device using your computer will be easy and simple. In case you have a Mac PC, then you can download the Android File Transfer app and use it. It will give you the option on your Mac to browse the files and folders on your Android device, and you can easily copy them to your Mac. But some files can only be imported to your iPhone via iTunes.

Google Apps On iOS :

You must be worried about the fact that you have already installed multiple apps on your Android gadgets and how do you get those apps on iOS. But in reality Apple Store also provides multiple useful apps like you get on Google Play. if you an Android user, then it is obvious that you have a Google account too. Google has made it simple by providing one login credential to access all their services from Gmail, Maps, Youtube, Google Drive, Hangouts, Google TV Remote, Chrome to Chromecast. So don't feel that leaving Google Android platform will narrow down your opportunities to access the Google apps. If you have a Google account then access it from Apple iPhone using various Google apps available on iTunes Apple Store.

Google provides some of the most used apps available on iOS and many of which have already been updated with official support for iOS 7. If your interaction and usage is more with Google services, stay tuned with Google's official iOS apps. Here are some of the most used Google apps available on iOS.

How To Increase Android Device Performance And Battery Life With Greenify

Posted By: Poketors - September 25, 2013
No introduction is required for the massively popular mobile operating system Android which offers many benefits for both developers and end-users.

A lot of android apps are there and the features can be great and sometimes offer a completely satisfactory user experience, but need proper maintenance else it can also slow down your device and drain your battery. If your Android device has multiple apps installed, it may lead to slow performance.

Greenify is a free Android app which can increase your Android device performance and battery life.

What Is Greenify :

Greenify helps you to identify the apps which hang or make your device run slow and also gives you the option to put them into a hibernated state. Once hibernated, the apps won’t be able to start background services unless you start the app again. It means few background services will run on your device which leads to better CPU and RAM usage resulting an improved system performance and longer battery life.

How To Use Greenify :

1. Login to Google Play and install the "Greenify" app.
2. Once it is installed, launch the app.
2. Press “+” and choose the apps.

Greenify shows you all the apps that are scheduled to run in the future as well as apps that will slow down your device. The only constraint with the free Greenify app is that it doesn't greenify system apps. If you want to do that you have to go with the paid donation version.

Greenify offers you all the benefits and you should choose apps wisely. If you try to greenify apps like alarm clocks or instant messengers, these won't work as “intended” anymore. The alarm clock won’t wake you up and you’ll not receive notifications if somebody sends you a message via instant messenger.

Available Versions :

Greenify is available in a free and a $2.99 donation versions. With some extra features, donation version includes greenifying system apps and providing notifications after hibernating an app. Initially you should try with the free version. Later on, $2.99 donation version would be helpful if you want to scan your apps and get a better system performance and battery life.

Share your experience once you try the Greenify app.

iOS 7 : Inspired By Android And Windows Phone

Posted By: Poketors - September 23, 2013
The new OS from Apple made it full of fundamental changes. If you have iPhone 4, iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 you mish have upgraded to iOS 7 and if not go for it now. Feature wise it is the best iOS version that Apple has ever introduced with some issues for battery life which can be saved by following some tweaks.

When we say iOS7 is inspired by Android and Windows Phone, then there should be some reason which made us to write this post. If you have an Android device or a Windows Phone then you should be aware of some features which is similar to iOS 7.

Apple used to have skeuomorphism design which helps in turning on the faux glass effect and with this they used real world symbols giving a 3D look. Once Microsoft made their logos and operating system apps look like 2D and very flat, Google introduced a flatter used interface afterwards and released Ice Cream Sandwich. In a similar way Apple also followed the same concept and they removed the skeuomorphism design  with all the decorations and moved to flatter and sleeker designs with apps.

Here are the iOS 7 features which resembles with Android And Windows Phone :

1. Control Center :

Similar to Android gadgets, iOS7 also introduced a easy approach where you can easily switch on or off Wi-Fi/data connection or change brightness by opening the notification shade by swiping down from top of the screen.

2.  Thumbnail View :

Thumbnail view was introduced by WebOS in 2009 and late on this feature was adopted by Google Android. Even Microsoft stepped into the same method implementation of multitasking in Windows Phone.  Apple also shows thumbnail view of open apps when multitasking in going on. It means it is similar to the Android where we find apps keep running at background.

3. Swipe On Lockscreen :

Like Android phone, now you can swipe at any area on iOS 7 device to unlock it. Earlier it used to be there but in a particular area.

4. App Updates :

If you want to change the setting for app update automatically, Android allows you to do that when phone is connected to internet. Apple has also added similar feature.

5. Dynamic Wallpaper :

You can select from multiple dynamic wallpapers of faux 3D. This is similar to Live Wallpaper in Android.

Even it is having multiple useful features, it lacks in some areas where Android is ahead. Here are the aspects where iOS 7 stays behind Android :

1. Fixed App Usage :

Unlike Android, you can't change the web browser in iOS 7 because it is fixed and you have to use Safari as Apple wants it to be used. On the other hand, Android has the option to choose the default browser from Chrome to Opera or any other.

2. Third Party Apps :

Apple is very much strict when it comes to device security and that is the reason iOS 7 has very few approved apps which can be used. On the other hand, Android has plenty of third party apps which can be used to share information.

3. Widgets :

In Android widgets are used and useful also. iOS 7 has no provision for widgets.

Apple has already made huge changes to iOS 7 and hopefully it will be able to fix the ongoing issues and will work on the pitfalls. Share your experience with iOS 7 and comment.

Android Kitkat Supports Intel 64-bit Intel Chips ?

Posted By: Poketors - September 18, 2013
From different sources it is heard that 64-bit support is coming to Android very soon. It is also rumoured that Android 4.4 KitKat would be that version supporting 64-bit architechture.

In the above image which is taken from a presentation given by Intel at its Developer Forum last week, you can see the future computing plans supporting various operating systems like Windows and Android. It is also observed from the presentation that 64-bit support is mentioned as an upcoming plan for Android devices that will have Intel chips architecture.

Though Intel did not confirm that 64-bit support is coming to Android 4.4 KitKat or not. It is not an impossible thing as you can see the recent interests of people in mobile processors with such powers and performance.

During IDF 2013 Intel was joined on stage by Google, Sundar Pichai himself talk about Chrome and Android. The giant chipmaker is more and more interested to increase its presence in the Android world. No need for excitement about 64-bit processing now, as no matter how promising it may sound, we shall have to wait till the release of Android 4.4 KitKat and whether it offers supportable options or not. Though it seems that 64-bit chips will be found in more and more mobile devices in the coming years. As of now Google should be ready to support them with future versions of its operating systems for enhancement purposes.

Google may unveil the next Nexus smartphone alongside Android 4.4 KitKat on October 14. May the rumour come true so that we can have such hands on experience.

Top 10 Innovative Products Of Google

Posted By: Poketors - September 10, 2013
