Google Chrome "Update Server Not Available" Errors
Here are the error codes that you usually get during Chrome update.

1. Update server not available (error: 1)

Issue : It means that Google Chrome can't be upgraded in its current directory.

Solution : You have to check which version of Google Chrome you're running by looking at the version number in the About Google Chrome box.

If the box lists something other than "Google Chrome" (e.g. "Chromium"), then this error is expected. Only Google Chrome supports updating. You can download Google Chrome from http://www.google.com/chrome. Chromium is what you get if you download the source code and build the browser yourself, or copy a build from someone who built it from the source.

2. Update server not available (error: 3)

Issue : It means that Google Chrome fails to communicate with Google Update.

Solution : You have to check if you're running Vista/ 7 and you have configured Google Chrome to always run as administrator. This is a known issue with the Google Chrome auto-updating mechanism and can be avoided by simply running Google Chrome as a normal user.

3. Update server not available (error:4)

Issue : It means some unexpected issue.

Solution :  Check the details in help forum.

Issue : It means the update was downloaded successfully, but it failed to install properly.

Solution : You can try restarting your computer. Then check your Windows Task Manager and see if GoogleUpdate.exe or GoogleUpdateOnDemand.exe appears in the list of processes. Then you can try updating again through the browser again.

Checking for update never completes

In case you observe the message "Checking for updates" and a little icon that spins forever, it means that Google Update was unable to communicate with Google Chrome.

The ultimate solution for this issue is you must be using the latest version of Google Chrome, You can download from http://www.google.com/chrome.

If these steps don't fix the problem, you are required to report the problem to Google Chrome team and wait for an update on that issue.

Google Updates Crawl Error Reports In Webmaster Tools

Posted By: Arin Dey - January 26, 2014
Google has released an update for crawl error reports in Webmaster Tools. It will be helpful for webmasters to understand crawl errors which are being displayed for redirected URLs.

Webmasters have always been in confusion about the crawl errors on what was it's meaning for redirected URLs and the way they were being displayed within Webmaster Tools. When a webmaster was redirected from first site to second site and there was a problem on second site in regards to the redirecting operation then it would display a crawl error and it was from first site, Here was the confusion which really meant that there was an error redirecting from first site to second site.

Webmasters were used to be in confusion and could not be able to determine what the true error was and how the redirecting was occurring. The new change will be helpful for webmasters to track crawl errors about the reasons - why they are happening, and how to fix them without having to do a lot of checking.

Google added that crawl errors like a 404 which is not a true error because the page design exists and it will not negatively impact the rest of the site’s rankings in the Google SERPs.
John Mueller from Google said, "Finding 404's is normal and expected of a healthy, well-configured website." So we can ignore these kind of errors. Lets hope the modified and updated tool will help webmasters in determing the real crawl errors.

Posted By: Poketors - December 19, 2013
WINK, an update to Google Glass enables users snap a picture with a wink. Google’s XE12 update introduced a few updates for Glass, which adds a feature to the device’s camera called “Wink” that enables the device’s camera to take a photo when the user winks.

Now the Google Glass owners can grab snapshots whenever they want without any hand movement. The Wink feature can be turned on or off in the Glass’ Settings panel. Additionally another update is Glass’ ability to upload straight to YouTube using the simple command, “OK glass, share with YouTube.”

Wink technology can be utilized in various ways in the future, according to a Google+ post.

“Imagine a day where you’re riding in the back of a cab and you just wink at the meter to pay,” says Google. “You wink at a pair of shoes in a shop window and your size is shipped to your door. You wink at a cookbook recipe and the instructions appear right in front of you.”

When Google introduced the headset, which was controlled by head movements, had video and audio capability and a built-in compass and accelerometer. A lot of additions and improvements to the device shave been seen in recent past.

In Google's ‘Explorers’ which is an 8,000 people unit who were chosen to be part of research team for devices. Pre-order the Glass Explorer Edition for $1,500 plus tax. Lets hope the new feature Wink will have enough impact on users.

The Galaxy Gear which will be released next month will not be having a flexible display, though the company is continuing to work on developing a bendable screen. It will be unveiled the same day as Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3, a phablet series gadget.

Apple Watch is also in the pipeline and Apple didn't revealed any date of release the product. Samsung became the world’s largest smartphone maker last year, overtaking Apple. But Apple is continuing its release on iPhone series and will be relesing iPhone5C (a low cost iPhone) and upgrades for iPhone5 (known as iPhone5S) according to rumored reports.
So as of now we have a rough idea that two smartphone giants are working on introducing smart watch. Lets wait for the devices and we will get to know more.

Should We Include rel="nofollow" To Infographics, Widgets

Posted By: Poketors - August 15, 2013
Do you think that Google considers all the infographics, widgets, counters, badges and embedded codes as good SEO practices? it has been a topic for discussing since couple of months among webmasters. Now Google's Iconic Matt Cutts has explained about it and advised webmasters with the things they can do.
Should We Include rel="nofollow" To Infographics, Widgets
What should we do with embeddable codes in things like widgets and infographics? Should we include the rel="nofollow" by default? Advert the user that the code includes a link and give him the option of not including it?

Yes! this was the question asked to Matt Cutts and he has come up with some interesting information.  Cutt says “My answer to this is colored by the fact that we have seen a ton of people trying to abuse widgets and abuse infographics. We've seen people who get a web counter, and they don’t realize that there’s mesothelioma links in there."

Check out the video for more details on Matt Cutts' awesome tips to bloggers and webmasters.

“Is the keyword text sort of keyword rich and something where the anchor text is really rich or is it just the name of your site? That sort of stuff.”

Cutts replied “I would not rely on widgets and infographics as your primary way to gather links, and I would recommend putting a nofollow, especially on widgets, because most people when they just copy and paste a segment of code, they don’t realize what all is going with that, and it’s usually not as much of an editorial choice because they might not see the links that are embedded in that widget".

As per him a lot of issues come from people who are using counters, widgets, badges and don't relaize the fact that there are some embedded codes with link back to some site.

He also added “Depending on the scale of the stuff that you’re doing with infographics, you might consider putting a rel nofollow on infographic links as well. The value of those things might be branding. They might be to drive traffic. They might be to sort of let people know that your site or your service exists, but I wouldn’t expect a link from a widget to necessarily carry the same weight as an editorial link freely given where someone is recommending something and talking about it in a blog post."

Continuing his sugesstions, he also explains "I know plenty of sites have tried to use infographics as link bait, but I do feel like there are a few inforgraphics out there that deserve follow links simply because they are so useful and full of great information,” he adds. “Unfortunately spammers abused the potential of infographics and the rest of us have to play by the new rules."

Do you think that Google has gone too far with nofollow usage? Or it will be a fair practice for SEO purpose.

Changes In Google Search

Posted By: Poketors - March 16, 2012
Google is working on the most drastic overhaul of its search technology in its history, the Wall Street Journal is reporting.

The Journal alleged that this update will shift Google search to rely heavily on technology called "semantic search," which taps into the actual meaning of words. However, it will not ditch the current keyword-based search, which determines the relevance of a site based on items like the words it uses, how often other sites link to it, among other criteria.

Google Search would also display more facts and answer direct questions at the top of the page, rather than just presenting links to other sites.

The Journal stated that this will directly affect between 10 and 20 percent of queries, which comes down to billions upon billions of searches every month.

How The Content Sharing Works On Facebook, Twitter and Google+

Posted By: Poketors - October 09, 2011
In case you want to spread your contents around the world web, it is essentially required to share that via a medium where people usually read the contents and this space is truly shared among three most popular social media sites – Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

How The Content Sharing Works On Facebook, Twitter and Google+

Everyday more than 200 million tweets are written by 100+ million users on Twitter and for Facebook? Yeah it is quite better than that. 800+ million users of Facebook like and share more than 2 billion posts per day while Google+ is now capturing the social media sphere at an gradually increasing rate with a small market around 43 million users.

If you are a publisher then it is very much required for you to share your content across the media channels. But normally we don’t see which one of these media is most actively playing the role in content sharing and which one of these is attacking viewers of the shared contents.

Here we will share a nice study and experiment done by Kevin Rose, founder of Digg. He shared the same content/article on his Facebook, Twitter and Google+ profiles at the same time and calculated with the help of bit.ly analytics. He observed the number of clicks coming from each of these social networks for the following two days and the results are not like what was expected earlier.

Facebook

Twitter

Google+

Number of Clicks

5815

11015

3623

Number of Followers

1.27m

261k

135k

He has 1.2 million followers on Twitter and they clicked on the link 5800 times. And 135k people have added Kevin to their Google+ circle, which made some 3600 clicks from there. Kevin’s 261k Facebook subscribers clicked on the link 11000+ times.

So obviously here is a clear understanding that Facebook played the major role while it comes to CTR od the articles and the content sharing.

Facebook's New Security Checks To Keep Spam Free

Posted By: Arin Dey - September 14, 2011
Facebook has been introducing several security checks since some months to avoid it being driven by spammers. It introduced several securities like email verification like almost other media sites, mobile phone number verification and now they came up with photo tagging feature.

In this option, you will be prompted to enter some answers to sequence of questions with multiple choices. Facebook offers the security checks if it finds any user entering some wrong username/password several times or doing some unwanted activity like sending friend requests to strangers.

Facebook security check
Facebook prompts you with 2 option and from there you need to choose one. The options are :

1. Add a Phone : It asks for adding a phone number where it sends a verification code. After entering the verification code you can login to Facebook account.

2. Identify photos of friends : This is the very new feature. It will prompt you with some profile/album photos from any of your friends in random order and you need to choose the correct option (name of the friend) in given multiple choices. Once you are done with sequence of  questions on identifying the photos of random  photos of friends, you are now allowed to enter into the account.
