Google+ vs Facebook [Infographic]

Posted By: Poketors - June 18, 2012
Google+ launched with a bang last year and has now reached over 170 million registered users and 100 million active users. The demographic is mainly male at 67%, the average age is 28 years old with a technical bent.
Google+ vs Facebook
Google+’s engagement levels are so low that actually rank behind MySpace and almost any other significant social network you want to mention.
Here are some of the findings:
The average post has less than one +1, less than one reply, and less than one re-share.
30% of users who make a public post never make a second one.
After making five public posts, there is a 15% chance that a user will not post publicly again.
Among users who make publicly-viewable posts, there is an average of 12 days between each post

Other research reveals that Google+ users spend on average only 3 minutes per month versus Facebook at over 400 minutes.

Here is some more information via an Infographic regarding Google + vs Facebook

Are We Obsessed With Facebook? [Infographic]

Posted By: Poketors - June 18, 2012
One of these latest creations focuses on our healthy obsession with MySpace. Oh, wait. All apologies. Considering the Google bomb story from earlier, this author is still stuck in 2004 mode, a time when MySpace ruled the social media scene. Now that title belongs to Facebook, naturally, and that’s where this particular infographic focused.

Are We Obsessed With Facebook? [Infographic]

That being said, it would be pretty neat to see a before-and-after infographic covering MySpace’s reign of sparkling gif terror.

As for Facebook, well, it’s safe to say we’re a nation of Facebook freaks, but said addiction doesn’t just start and stop with the United States. In fact, according to the infographic, 71.2 percent of Facebook users reside outside of the US.

There are a number of other interesting tidbits, like:

- Members over the age of 35 comprise more than 30 percent of Facebook members
- 48 percent of “young Americans” get their news from Facebook (frightening)
- 750 million photos were uploaded to Facebook over the last New Years weekend

Another interesting portion deals with a 20-minute breakdown of Facebook activity. The findings include:

- 1.9 million friend requests accepted
- 1.5 million wall posts
- 1.3 million photos tagged
- over 10 million comments made

Here’s the entire infographic :

Facebook Camera apps launched for iPhones

Posted By: Poketors - June 02, 2012

Facebook launched “Facebook Camera“, a photo-sharing app for Facebook users with Apple iOS devices to upload and browse photos on their smartphones. The camera app lets people take Instagram-style pictures that can be shared with iPhones.
It is a stand-alone app, which syncs to the Facebook social network, letting friends consult one another’s photos. It is said that the new app is faster than the primary Facebook app.
The app will show you a feed of great photos from your Facebook friends. You can swipe to see more of any album or tap to enlarge an individual photo. You can crop the photos or apply filters. The app supports uploading multiple photos as well. Users can add captions, mark their location and tag friends.

The New York Times’ Bits blog says that Instagram has 40 million users, while Facebook has 900 million. Thus the Camera app will be able to tap into the requirements of those Facebook only users who are not in Instagram.

Facebook IPO On Nasdaq

Posted By: Poketors - May 19, 2012
Newly minted shares of Facebook (FB) started trading shortly after 11:30 a.m. ET Friday, after a trading glitch delayed the action by about 30 minutes. The IPO has sent investors scrambling for a piece of one of the hottest public offerings to ever hit the tape. CEO Mark Zuckerberg opened the NASDAQ exchange remotely Friday morning from the company's Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters. Priced at $38 per share but expected to zoom higher in the early going, the offering could raise $18.4 billion for the social networking web site.

Facebook IPO On NasdaqThe offering price also means the company is valued at $104 billion -- and that's before any runup in the share price. Even the opening sticker price makes Facebook the biggest-ever valuation by an American company at the time of its offering and the second-largest U.S. IPO ever behind Visa.

At the $38 share price, Facebook ranks as the 36th company in the world, just above French petroleum company Total, and the 23rd largest U.S. company, as measured by stock market value (number of shares outstanding multiplied by the stock price). That makes it larger then Amazon.com and Cisco Systems. It doesn't rank quite so high when it comes to sales, however -- Facebook is 909th in terms of annual revenue.

fPrivacy – Use Facebook Without Disclosing Your Personal Info

Posted By: Poketors - April 21, 2012
Here is a new Facebook apps which enables you to maintain your privacy measures i.e. your personal details. If you use your Facebook profile very frequently then a Google Chrome Extension is highly recommended as a Facebook security shield for you and yeah that goes to all those virtual farmers (Farm-ville) and even those dreadful Mafias (yeah you are not safe too). If this Facebook Apps is there then no need for those Facebook users to compromise their Facebook accounts, where few of them were not able to recover it too. It might be hacked.

fPrivacy – Use Facebook Without Disclosing Your Personal Info

What are the Personal Information you can share with Facebook Apps:

  • The mainly Apps are Name, Profile Picture, Gender, Networks, User ID, List of Friends, and any other information I’ve made public. And you never know, where these Facebook App Developer are using your information and don’t ask the purpose now. Birthday and Current City.
  • Facebook Apps can mail you directly, one more notification to your inbox. Not to mention, what they can actually do with your email IDs in hands.
  • Facebook Apps can post on your wall without your permission.
So you are sharing all the above information, it’s like the user is sharing his/her Facebook profile/account with them. Here you are not sharing the Facebook profile information, they are forcing you to do so, otherwise they won’t let you chop fruits (talking about Fruit Ninja Frenzy, you fool). This is the way you share all these info.

So you have to stop them and you should. You should protect your personal information on social networks.

How can we stop sharing all the info stated above in Facebook:

fPrivacyGoogle Chrome Extension Stop Sharing Your Personal Information With Facebook Apps

fPrivacy is a Google Chrome Extension which acts as a Facebook security shield using which, you can stop Facebook Apps to use your personal information.

Whenever you are out to act all Ninja, wanna chop fruits, or about to conquer the world, being a Mafia of your tribe, select the information you want to compromise with the Facebook Apps. My recommendation – share the minimum personal information with them.

Who are using this Google Chrome Extension, will be first prompted before using the Facebook to select the personal information they want to share. Click on Update and there you are an unknown fruit chopper, with the bare minimum information being compromised.

Find the below example which will tell you how this works. Below are the two images which depicts the personal information being shared with Facebook Apps without the use of fPrivacy and later is the one where the user is using one. Makes sense. Isn’t it?

Here we have learnt that how you can protect your information from being shared and compromised with the Facebook Apps. Now it's your turn to try for it and go ahead.

Facebook May Become e-Commerce Giant Rival To Amazon, eBay

Posted By: Poketors - April 06, 2012
Each month, hundreds of millions of individuals around the world log on to Facebook and this year, the world's largest social network will likely register its billionth user account. It has made Facebook an attractive platform for businesses and marketers looking to reach consumers.

Facebook May Become e-Commerce Giant Rival To Amazon, eBay

Following the adage: 'Go where the users are', companies have flocked to Facebook, and they've increasingly been trying to do more with their Facebook presences in an effort to get the maximum ROI out of the social networking experience.

For some companies, doing more has meant investing in Facebook commerce, or f-commerce as it is widely referred to. The concept is simple - instead of forcing consumers to go to your website to buy your wares, you can hawk them through storefronts on Facebook, eliminating the need for consumers to leave their favorite hangout.

But many of those storefronts are now being shuttered according to a report by Bloomberg. Major brands like Gap, Old Navy, J.C. Penney, Nordstrom and Banana Republic are among those that have decided that f-commerce wasn't worth it.

The reason? For video game Gamestop, which has some 3.5m fans on its Facebook Page, the ROI simply wasn't there. "We just didn't get the return on investment we needed from the Facebook market, so we shut it down pretty quickly," Gamestop VP of marketing Ashley Sheetz told Bloomberg.

In retrospect, the fact that some of the f-commerce hype is subsiding isn't entirely surprising. As Forrester Research analyst Sucharita Mulpuru observes, selling to consumers on Facebook is "like trying to sell stuff to people while they’re hanging out with their friends at the bar." In other words, it's not always a good combination.

That, however, never seemed to bother Facebook and many other observers. Facebook largely appears to believe that it can do just about anything because "this is where people are hanging out." And some went so far as to predict that social commerce would be a $30bn per year business by 2015, with Facebook accounting for much of the sales.

The good news for the companies that experimented with f-commerce is that early experimentation is usually a good thing. Not everything works, but it's better to try and find out than to sit on the sidelines and risk missing out on something that could have positively impacted the business. In most cases, the amount of money invested in f-commerce initiatives by large brands has been relatively small.

The bad news here is really for Facebook. If it's ever going to live up to the type of valuation it will likely go public at, it's going to need to make a lot more money. F-commerce could have helped in two big ways:
  • Encouraging companies to spend more on Facebook advertising to drive users to their Facebook storefronts.
  • Allowing Facebook to expand the use of its virtual currency, Credits, to purchases of physical goods.
Obviously, f-commerce shouldn't be written off as dead. But if Facebook really wants to make a go of it, the world's largest social network will have to be more thoughtful than "this is where people are hanging out" when trying to promote commerce on its platform.

How The Content Sharing Works On Facebook, Twitter and Google+

Posted By: Poketors - October 09, 2011
In case you want to spread your contents around the world web, it is essentially required to share that via a medium where people usually read the contents and this space is truly shared among three most popular social media sites – Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

How The Content Sharing Works On Facebook, Twitter and Google+

Everyday more than 200 million tweets are written by 100+ million users on Twitter and for Facebook? Yeah it is quite better than that. 800+ million users of Facebook like and share more than 2 billion posts per day while Google+ is now capturing the social media sphere at an gradually increasing rate with a small market around 43 million users.

If you are a publisher then it is very much required for you to share your content across the media channels. But normally we don’t see which one of these media is most actively playing the role in content sharing and which one of these is attacking viewers of the shared contents.

Here we will share a nice study and experiment done by Kevin Rose, founder of Digg. He shared the same content/article on his Facebook, Twitter and Google+ profiles at the same time and calculated with the help of bit.ly analytics. He observed the number of clicks coming from each of these social networks for the following two days and the results are not like what was expected earlier.

Facebook

Twitter

Google+

Number of Clicks

5815

11015

3623

Number of Followers

1.27m

261k

135k

He has 1.2 million followers on Twitter and they clicked on the link 5800 times. And 135k people have added Kevin to their Google+ circle, which made some 3600 clicks from there. Kevin’s 261k Facebook subscribers clicked on the link 11000+ times.

So obviously here is a clear understanding that Facebook played the major role while it comes to CTR od the articles and the content sharing.

Posted By: Arin Dey - September 16, 2011
All of us have Facebook profiles and some of us have Facebook Profile Pages too for promoting our business or some cause and events. So we need to do a customization for this so that people can subscribe our pages whenever they want and without being friend. They can get the subscribe option on my profile page.

Whatever I share something on my personal page that is related my pictures my present status updates and anyone from my friend circle may not like that too.

We normally post updates on our personal profile page everyday that might be of interest to the friends directly connected to us and in the other case, we will be happier much more if people who are not connected to us directly on Facebook but can read, view or comment on them. So we will provide you some tips on how can we do that without making your profile public.

Allow strangers to follow you on Facebook

Recently, Facebook has added an option to profile pages that will let people “subscribe” to your profile just like the 'follow' in the twitter. So here, when you will post something on your page then your subscribers will be getting the update as they have already subscribed your page.

Here are the features of Facebook Subscribe:

We can consider as f-like to a post with subscribe to a page for better understanding. Here the difference is that when you like a Facebook page you will get update each time but here you only get public updates from that Facebook profile if subscribed. You can subscribe to our public Facebook updates at http://www.facebook.com/Poketors.

Facebook subscribe feature

How to add the Subscribe button to Facebook Profile

Here we go starting and exploring the subscribe option. Click here to know about the option. We would like to cross check before making this public as people out of your friend circle also can subscribe the page. Hence please make sure whatever posts you are sharing to web.

Facebook profile subscribe

Here are some simple steps:

1. Go your Facebook profile page,
2. Click on the “View As” button a
3. Click the “public” link to see what updates in your profile are public.
